Motorcyclist awarded £1m compensation for injuries

A 50-year-old motorcyclist has been awarded £1m compensation after being injured in a road accident.

The man and his wife were riding their motorbike when a car collided with them.

The man suffered severe injuries including multiple fractures. He was in a coma for a week. He had to undergo numerous operations and stayed in hospital for 11 weeks.

He will require more surgery in the future. He was left permanently impotent and may need to have his right arm and leg amputated. His wife also suffered several injuries.

He had worked as a HGV driver but had to give up his job because of his injuries. He also had to give up motorcycling which had been a lifetime hobby.

He brought a claim against the driver of the car saying she had been negligent in overtaking on a blind bend. She admitted liability.

The man was awarded £1m compensation in an out-of-court settlement. This was to cover his loss of earnings, medical and therapy costs as well as his pain, suffering and loss of amenity.
